The Coolness of Your Shade

A tall tree you are,

With twisting branches,

Dressed in vines of ivy,

And emerald stars.

Like a child,

I want to climb among your limbs,

Up to where you cradle the sky,

But your trunk is tall,

And you branches too high,

So I will sit in the soft grass,

Among your gnarled roots,

And be satisfied with the shelter,

And coolness of your shade.
